Jonathan + Cassie// Nashville Engagement Session

Jonathan and Cassie are one of those couples that when you talk to them, you feel so comfortable and at ease. They are so much fun, love to laugh and are crazy in love with each other. They moved to Nashville for Vanderbilt University, of which Cassie is currently attending. So it was only fitting that we start the engagement session there. If you have never to been to Vanderbilt’s campus, you are truly missing out. It is so beautiful and the magnolia trees were in full bloom, so it was extremely fragrant and full of beauty.

They have a lot of family spread out all over the country and they both even say that they know Nashville will not be there forever home. Getting pictures with the Nashville skyline was a must for them, so we headed to Cumberland Park and the pedestrian bridge. We got our great skyline photos and even found a beautiful field of white flowers. It was truly a great evening hanging out in Nashville with these two awesome people for their engagement session.

Jonathan and Cassie are getting married at Bellemeade Plantation next year. I have recently shot two weddings there this wedding season and it is quickly becoming my favorite wedding venue in Nashville! There wedding will be next May and will be such a wonderful event and I am so excited to be a part of their day!

Chad + Catherine// Meadow Hill Farm Wedding Editorial

This Meadow Hill Farm Garden Wedding Editorial was recently feauaturd in Southeastern Bride’s Volume 2 Magazine and we couldn’t be more proud! Elizabeth of Elizabeth Ulrich Design details out the design for all of this: Christy and I envisioned a rustic and romantic look with an airy vibe for this wedding editorial photo shoot. We wanted to achieve a design and style a shoot that was refined and thoughtful but still incorporated plenty of elements that a bride could achieve on her own and incorporate into her wedding design.

Right off the bat, I turned to BHLDN to create a head-to-toe look that would embody the ethereal refinement we envisioned. The floral touches on those gorgeous pumps and that exquisite painted flora veil were so dreamy! Christy and I both fell hard for the strappy open back of this Watters gown and knew it was the perfect choice for our model.

With its refined rustic look, I knew Meadow Hill Farm was the perfect location for our garden inspiration shoot. The mix of stone and warm weathered wood in the cottage and courtyard lend a certain European ambience to the space, and that inspired everything from the modern English garden feel of the paper suite from Casey Snyder Design to the dessert, our own DIY twist on the famed French croquembouche. We loved how easily our faux croquembouche came together! We simply used toothpicks to adhere donut holes to a styrofoam form, filling in any gaps with pretty floral stems. Even the butterflies fluttering around the courtyard approved!

For our florals, we aimed for soft blush and lavender, and I liked the idea of mixing lush roses and peonies in those hues with more earthy elements like the succulents and eucalyptus to tie in both the romantic and rustic feel of the farm. Jessica Fell Davis from SOULflowers definitely wowed us with the untamed feel of the bouquet and that beautifully understated flower crown.

The succulents themselves informed the rest of the color scheme. I love the way a single succulent offers a seamless blend of muted colors ranging from grayish greens to pale pinks and purples. For our sweetheart table, I mimicked that range of hues with hand-dyed crumpled cotton linens and the loose gathering of eucalyptus, flowers and succulents running the length of the tablescape. I love the effortless effect of a natural table garland that doesn’t require pinning and wiring. This version is impactful without being fussy — and, best of all, it’s easy to replicate on your own! To achieve the look, I simply let the natural flow of the eucalyptus stems guide the design, tucking and hiding the ends of the stems under new branches as I went along. Then I added just enough brass, mercury glass and vintage golden flatware to lend some warmth and subdued shine to the mix.

Our models are a real-life couple with the most amazing chemistry. Catherine, a photographer, and her musician husband Chad had us swooning all day long! Ana Liza Witham of The Luxe Beauté styled Catherine’s dreamy platinum locks into a romantic, loose updo and coiffed Chad’s amazing head of hair. We loved that Ana Liza kept Catherine’s makeup clean and radiant to highlight her natural beauty. It was the perfect look for getting lost along the garden paths and grassy fields with Christy and our team!

Aaron + Anna// Cedarwood Bohemian Wedding Inspiration

Last year I assisted Julie Paisley at her Film Workshop at Cedarwood in Nashville, and it was a styled elopement shoot with a surprise twist. The groom was going to propose to his girlfriend! It was such an amazing experience to witness this bohemian Cedarwood Wedding inspiration unfold into a wonderful moment!

This is what the planner at Cedarwood had to say about the shoot. Aaron proposed to Anna in one of the coolest ways possible! Anna agreed to model for a “photo shoot” at our Nashville venue, but little did she know, an actual planned and styled surprise proposal was awaiting her. We worked with Aaron to create a youthful, fun, boho style to reflect Anna’s playful personality. All of which included a cupid-inspired teepee, custom signage, arrows, feathers, and a festive celebration with a mimosa bar and color-coordinated mini pineapple bundt cakes!

Anna was dressed in Alexandra Grecco separates and a boho flower crown. Anna was naturally gorgeous and looked stunning! She and Aaron perfectly fit the vibrant elements of this summer outdoor proposal party, with personalized details and colorful decor designed by the Cedarwood Weddings team.

When Aaron presented Anna’s ring in front of a custom teepee, and she asked “is this for real?”, thinking it was just part of the shoot. We arranged for Anna’s parents to be on Skype to witness the special moment and setting. This bohemian Cedarwood Wedding inspiration is the perfect way to welcome this newly engaged couple!

Jeremiah & Brittany// Carnton Plantation Wedding

Last summer I got together with Elizabeth with Elizabeth A. Wright Events to discuss doing a shoot together. We decided that we wanted to a classic southern wedding inspiration shoot; we immediately knew that a Carnton Plantation Wedding is the epitome of southern charm. And it would be the perfect backdrop!

Elizabeth focused on neutral tones that would compliment the beauty that the planation had to offer. Our shoot was in the middle of summer, so the gardens and all the greenery were in full bloom. As you glance through the images, you can see how soft and delicate all the details were.

Jeremiah and Brittany were such wonderful models for our Carnton Plantation Wedding shoot. They eloped and never got to experience the big white dress, hair and makeup done, or carrying a gorgeous bouquet of flowers. Brittany was absolutely stunning in the gown from The Bride Room and it moved so beautifully. The love between this couple was so real and romantic. They definitely made my job very easy!

History of Carnton Plantation

I love history and remember touring the plantation as a child. So I would love to share a little bit of history about The Carnton Plantation. This information was obtained from their website.

Carnton was built in 1826 by former Nashville mayor Randal McGavock (1768-1843). Throughout the nineteenth century it was frequently visited by those shaping Tennessee and American history, including President Andrew Jackson. Carnton grew to become one of the premier farms in Williamson County, Tennessee.

November 30, 1864, Carnton was witness to one of the bloodiest battles of the entire Civil War. The Confederate Army of Tennessee furiously assaulted the Federal army entrenched along the southern edge of Franklin. The resulting battle, believed to be the bloodiest hours of the Civil War and Carnton served as the largest field hospital in the area for hundreds of wounded and dying Confederate soldiers.

The McGavock family owned Carnton until 1911 when Susie Lee McGavock sold it. In 1973 Carnton was listed on the National Register of Historic Places and in 1977 the house and ten acres were donated to the Carnton Association, Inc. By that time the house had suffered from years of neglect and disrepair and since then the Association has been vital in restoring and maintaining the site.
